Unfortunately, COVID-19 has, as for so many people and businesses globally, had a devastating impact on our women. In June last year, we were heartbroken to find out that women and their families in Uganda were starving, as a result of having to stop work due to the pandemic. Flooding in May and the doubling of public transport prices only added fuel to the fire. Some women had savings they could use for a while, but even those who did were also paying to feed their sisters. One particular woman, Patricia, who previously only had one chair in her salon, spent her savings on two more chairs and a shelf. You can imagine the knock-on effect this had on Patricia’s other living costs. One of our partners, Afrinspire, used your donations to provide food and sanitary items to the women, which have, in some cases, literally saved lives. We could not be more grateful for your support during what has been an incredibly challenging situation worldwide.
In response to the above, Sarah has been been working harder than ever, including writing new courses and considering all the appropriate alterations for teaching in this climate.
We will continue to update this page with updates from the women as and when we receive them, so stay tuned!
